  • 2024.11.14

● S-OIL has conducted the ‘Hero Citizen Campaign’ to honor brave citizens since 2008.

● It awarded 140 million Won to 17 hero citizens of the year who helped neighbors at risk.

On Nov. 14, S-OIL (CEO Anwar A. Al-Hejazi) held the 2024 Hero Citizen Award Ceremony at its Head Office in Gongdeok-dong, Mapo, Seoul, together with the Korea National Council on Social Welfare (Chairman Kim Seong-yee). In the ceremony, the refiner awarded plaques and 140 million Won to 17 hero citizens of the year who made sacrifices to save neighbors in danger.

S-OIL presented both prize money and award plaque to one fallen hero, one injured hero, and 15 other active heroes. In January, the fallen hero Kwak Han-gil was on his way home after working at Gyeongbu Expressway in Cheonan City, South Chungcheong province when he was hit by a 16-ton truck that failed to see him as he attempted to rescue a driver from an overturned vehicle. The 4-ton truck had tipped over after colliding with a guardrail. In April, another hero Lee Hee-sung jumped onto a moving truck that was rolling with its brakes off. He sustained an ankle fracture but successfully prevented a traffic accident by stopping the vehicle.

“Citizens who selflessly acted to protect neighbors in danger are the true heroes of our society” said CEO Anwar A. Al-Hejazi. “S-OIL will also strive to serve as a trustworthy and reliable custodian, just like these unsung heroes.”

S-OIL has discovered a total 325 hero citizens for 17 years since 2008 and granted 2.4 billion Won with the goal to support hero citizens who displayed brave citizenship to save our neighbors at risk.
