● Eight hero firefighters were honored for their sacrifices made at disaster and incident scenes.
● The Hero Firefighter Campaign has boosted the morale of firefighters and supported their livelihoods since 2006.
On November 28th, eight ‘Hero Firefighters’ received an award plaque and a total 90 million Won in prizes at the ‘2024 Hero Firefighters Award Ceremony’ held by S-OIL (RD & CEO Anwar Al-Hejazi) and the Korea National Council for Social Welfare (Chairman Kim Sung-i) at ROKAUS Hotel in Yongsan.
S-OIL presented an award plaque with a 20 million Won cash prize to Top Hero Firefighter Yoo Seung-geol (Fire Lieutenant, Gyeonggi, Namyangju Fire Station) who was recommended by a deliberation committee consisting of firefighting experts. The Company also granted an award plaque and a one million Won cash prize each to seven ‘Hero Firefighters’ including Kim Kwang-Soo (Fire Sergeant, Gyeongsang, Cheongsong Fire Station,).
In June this year, Fire Lieutenant Yoo Seung-geol, who was picked as the Top Hero Firefighter, saved an individual in need of rescue from flood incident through underwater search at Hwado eup, Namyangju. His heroic activities also include firefighting at a warehouse in Ilpae dong, a safe rescue of a missing person with intellectual disability in April in Wabu-eup, Namyangju, and a senior citizen with dementia in winter 2023. Yoo has made a remarkable contribution to public safety with an outstanding record of 978 fire incidents response and 1,624 rescue operations.
S-OIL also recognized seven more ‘2024 Firefighters’ who dedicated themselves to save lives at fire and accident scenes: Fire Sargent Kim Kwang-Soo (Gyeongsang, Cheongsong Fire Station), Fire Lieutenant Kim Yong-Soo (Incheon, Yeongjong Fire Station), Fire Lieutenant Kim Wook (Daejeon, Dunsan Fire Station), Fire Lieutenant Sung Hoon (Chungbuk, Jincheon Fire Station), Fire Sargent Yoon Sung-Yeol (Gyeonggi, Pyeongtaek Fire Station), Fire Lieutenant Lee Dae-Sik (Jeju, Eastern Jeju Fire Station), and Fire Lieutenant Jo Jong-Seok (Daegu, Dalseong Fire Station)
“I was deeply inspired by selfless bravery of firefighters that saves lives at the scenes of various fires and accidents” S-OIL CEO Anwar Al-Hejazi said. “I feel proud of S-OIL’s Hero Firefighter Program that rewards firefighters and thus the Company will keep supporting them with deepest respect.”
Since 2006, S-OIL has granted condolence money to families of fallen firefighters, schooling expenses to the children of fallen firefighters, treatment expenses to injured firefighters and has held refreshment camps for firefighters and their spouses under the Hero Firefighter Campaign over the past 19 years.
