● Eight maritime officers including Senior Police Officer Han Seung-man from KCG Police Station Gunsan were named 2024 Hero Maritime Officers

● S-OIL CEO Anwar A. Al Hejazi was appointed as an Honorary Maritime Officer in recognition of the Company’s programs to support Hero Maritime Officers

On Dec. 9th, S-OIL (RD & CEO Anwar A. Al-Hejazi) held an award ceremony for maritime officers of the Korea Coast Guard (KCG) at Mapo Garden Hotel in Seoul together with the Korea National Council on Social Welfare (KNCSW; Chairman Kim Sung-yee), and KCG (Commissioner General Kim Jong-wook), presenting award plaques with a combined 90 mil. Won in cash prizes to eight named Maritime Heroes for 2024.

In the ceremony, Senior Police Officer Han Seung-man (KCG Police Station, Gunsan) who was named ‘Top Hero Maritime Officer’ received a plaque with a 20 mil. Won cash prize from S-OIL. In addition, the Company granted an award plaque and a 10 mil. Won cash prize each to seven ‘Hero Maritime Officers’ including Police Officer Kwon O-min (KCG Rescue Unit, Boryeong)

Senior Police Officer Son, who received the top award, was dispatched to a distressed 35-ton fishing boat with eight crew members near the shore of a islands group in Gunsan. During his first underwater search, he saved one crew member in the cabin. In the subsequent search, he located another three crew members stuck on the capsized boat and saved them.

On this day, S-OIL CEO Anwar A. Al-Hejazi was appointed as an Honorary Maritime Officer in recognition of the Company’s various programs to support maritime officers through Hero Maritime Officer campaign. “I am very pleased to be appointed as an Honorary Maritime Officer in recognition of our ongoing contributions to maritime officers” said S-OIL CEO. “We will keep providing unstinting support to maritime police officers” he added.

In an effort to encourage maritime police officers who are committed to safeguarding the country’s maritime territory and people’s lives and property in the frontline by rescuing ships, tackling marine pollution, and taking action against illegal fishing vessels, S-OIL signed a “Maritime Hero Protection” agreement with the KCG and the KNCSW in 2013. Since then, the Company has been providing support through scholarships for the children of maritime police officers who died in the line of duty, medical bills for injured officers, a retreat camp for officers and their spouses, and hero maritime officer awards.
