● S-OIL donates 100 mil. won to Ethiopia to help build new classrooms for children

On Oct.11, S-OIL (CEO Othman Al-Ghamdi) delivered a 100 mil. won donation for Ethiopian children at the World Vision headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul. S-OIL, together with World Vision, has supported children in Enemorena Ener of Ethiopia since last year so that they can have educational opportunities and stand on their own feet.

The refiner, which started sponsoring a primary school in Shomoro Village last year, decided to provide children in Beritene village, with a population of over 12,000, with an improved educational environment. The donation will be spent in building and repairing classrooms and in purchasing livestock for providing children with school meals. Breeding livestock enables people to yield sustainable profits through milking them and enlarging the number of livestock.

Ethiopia was the only African country that dispatched ground forces during the Korean War. Out of 6,037 armies dispatched to Korea, 121 died and 536 were wounded. S-OIL’s decision to support Ethiopia is part of its effort to express gratitude to the country and not to forget their blood and sublime sacrifice.

S-OIL Othman Al-Ghamdi CEO said, “S-OIL hopes that supporting educational infrastructure in backward regions of Ethiopia will enable children to grow up into future leaders who propel the country’s prosperity.”

As a global company, S-OIL, which operates systematic CSR programs including Hero, Environment and Local Community Support Programs domestically, started to support Ethiopia, one of the poorest African countries as well as the only African country that dispatched troops during the Korean War to help their self-reliance and improve their living conditions.
