Eight hero firefighters were honored for their sacrifices made at disaster and incident scenes.
The Hero Firefighter Campaign has boosted the morale of firefighters and supported their livelihoods for 20 years since 2006.
S-OIL (CEO Anwar Al-Hejazi) and the “Korea National Council on Social Welfare (Chairperson Kim Sung-i) held the Hero Firefighters Award Ceremony” at the Mapo Garden Hotel in Seoul on December 11, presenting plaques and a total of 90 million won in prize money to eight “Hero Firefighters.”
At the ceremony, the Company presented a plaque and prize money to Fire Lieutenant Ryu Young-Cheol of the Cheongsong Fire Station, who was selected as the “Top Hero Firefighter” by a judging panel composed of firefighting experts. Plaques and awards were also given to seven additional “Hero Firefighters,” including Fire Sergeant Kang Ha-Young of the 119 Special Response Team
Lieutenant Ryu, who received the honor of being named the Top Hero Firefighter, was recognized for his strong sense of duty and outstanding rescue performance, saving a mother and daughter stranded in the middle of a flooded river during heavy rains in Cheongsong County in June 2025 and preventing cultural heritage damage and rescuing lives on the frontlines during the massive wildfire in North Gyeongsang Province.
S-OIL also recognized seven more “2025 Hero Firefighters” who demonstrated exceptional sacrifice to save lives at fire scenes and various disaster sites: Kang Ha-Young (119 Special Response Unit), Moon Deok-Gi (Samcheok Fire Station Seo Moon-gyo (Seulju Fire Station), Lee Ki-Pyeong (Seoul Metropolitan 119 Special Rescue Unit), Lim Geon-taek (119 Special Response Team), Cha Byeong-gu (119 Special Response Team), and Cheon Young-min (119 Special Response Team).
S-OIL CEO Anwar Al-Hejazi said, “I was deeply moved by selfless bravery of firefighters who risk their lives to save others at fire and accident scenes. S-OIL takes great pride in supporting these firefighting heroes and will continue to do so.”
Since 2006, the Company has granted condolence money to families of fallen firefighters, schooling expenses to the children of fallen firefighters, treatment expenses to injured firefighters and has held refreshment camps for firefighters and their spouses under the Hero Firefighter Campaign over the past 20 years.
