  • [CSR News] S-OIL awards ‘Hero Citizens of the Year’
  • 2021.11.16

● S-OIL has conducted the Hero Citizen Campaign to root for courageous citizens since 2008.
● It awarded 140 million won to 20 hero citizens of the year who helped neighbors at risk.

On Nov. 16, S-OIL (CEO RD Hussain Al-Qahtani) held the 2021 Hero Citizen Award Ceremony at S-OIL Head Office in Gongdeok-dong, Mapo, Seoul, together with the Korea National Council on Social Welfare (CEO Seo Sang-mok). In the ceremony, the refiner awarded 140 million won to 20 hero citizens who put themselves at risk to save others in peril.

S-OIL presented both prize money and plaques to one fallen hero, four injured heroes, and 15 others who exercised bravery, including Lee Young-gon (male, 61), who died while trying to rescue a driver that had a car accident near the Jinju Intersection on the Namhae Expressway in Jinju City, South Gyeongsang Province in September and Kim Jae-gwan (male, 44), who was injured while putting out a fire that broke out on the rooftop of a commercial building at Mangpo-dong, Suwon City, Gyeonggi Province in July, which prevented the fire from escalating into a larger fire.

“Courageous citizens who exercised bravery and demonstrated a spirit of sacrifice to save neighbors in danger are true heroes of our society,” said CEO Hussain Al-Qahtani. “S-OIL will also make efforts to serve as a trustworthy and reliable custodian, just like such unsung heroes.”

S-OIL has discovered a total of 269 hero citizens for 14 years since 2008 and granted 20 billion won with the goal to support hero citizens who go out of their way to save others at risk.
