  • 2016.04.11

● S-Oil will sponsor oil products for the successful hosting of the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.
   - CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher wished the Olympics “great success and that it will leave a sustainable heritage in Gangwon Province and Korea.”

S-OIL will officially sponsor the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

S-Oil said on April 11 that CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher and Cho Yang-ho, president of the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, officially signed a sponsorship agreement in the oil category for the PyeongChang Olympics at the Seoul office of the committee in Seosomun-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul.

According to this agreement, S-OIL will provide oil products as required for the operation of the vehicles of the committee and the activities of the athletes, including their transportation, etc. until the games draws its final curtain. In return, S-OIL will be assigned rights to conduct advertising and promotional activities by harnessing the emblem and materials, etc. of the Olympics as an oil supplier.

“I’m well aware that many people poured their passion and sweat to win the bid to host the Olympics and they are still running hard for its success.” said CEO Al-Mahasher. “We decided to sponsor the event in order to lend support, though small, to such a big national event as a responsible member of society.” He also said to Committee President Cho Yang-ho, “I hope that the PyeongChang Olympics, which is only 670 days away before opening, will open a new horizon in winter sports by achieving the grand vision of being the Olympics encompassing culture, the environment, peace and economy, and that it will become a successful event, leaving a sustainable heritage in Gangwon Province and Korea.”

S-OIL has continuously provided sponsorships for the development of winter sports, donating 150 million won to national athletes in short track and speed skating, etc. at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics as a means to encourage them.

The PyeongChang Olympics will run for 17 days from Feb. 9 to 25 in 2018 and host 15 disciplines in 12 stadiums in Pyeongchang, Gangreung, and Jeongseon.
