“Good oil” S-OIL debuted a new lube oil brand and declared its earnest step to expand sales in the domestic and overseas premium market.

S-OIL held a ceremony for launching its premium lube oil brand, “S-OIL 7,” at Banyan Tree Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul in the afternoon of May 26 and unveiled a total of six 100% synthetic engine oil products. That day, S-OIL CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher invited S-OIL Total Lubricants Co. (STLC) CEO Pascal Rigaud and about 100 representatives of local lube oil agents and held an information session on the products and the brand development process.

“S-OIL 7 is a futuristic top-tier brand, which embodies all the strengths of S-OIL, which is armed with world-class technical prowess and excellence in quality in all areas ranging from feedstock, lube base oil to manufacturing,” said the S-OIL CEO. “Marking the 25th anniversary since our entry into the finished lube oil market in 1989, we will take the launch of this new brand as an opportunity to expand and develop our lube oil business.”

“S-OIL 7” is a premium lube oil brand focusing on high quality amid rising demand for high-performance lube oils. An S-OIL official said, “S-OIL 7 symbolizes five functions required for engines ? fuel economy, eco-friendliness, drivability, durability, and cleanness ? in response to developing auto technology as well as matching with two customer values, which are the improvement of the driving performance of cars and driver satisfaction, thus we will establish it as the top-tier, premium brand.”

Along with the launch of the new brand, S-OIL disclosed six 100% synthetic oil product lines tailored to the characteristics of gasoline, diesel and LPG engines and the characteristics of the driving of vehicles such as RV vans. They are made of S-OIL-manufactured premium lube base oil (Group Ⅲ) and synthetic base oil, Poly Alpha Olefin (PAO), and their functions and eco-friendliness have been significantly strengthened by employing the latest additive technology. S-OIL is in charge of feedstock supply, product development, and overseas sales, while its subsidiary STLC is responsible for the manufacture of lube oil and domestic sales.

“Manufacturing all products based on a feedstock of 100% synthetic base oils is a very rare case among domestic major lube oil brands,” said an S-OIL official. “We plan to rev up our foray into major local and overseas markets that are experiencing increasing premium engine oil demand by aggressively tapping on our high credibility and sales network.”

S-OIL is a key supplier in the global lube base oil market with a capacity of 42,700 barrels per day. In particular, it has the world’s largest single-location production facility among manufacturers of all Group I, II, and III lube base oils according to the global quality grades. The refiner is a leading player in the lube base oil industry, mainly producing eco-friendly Group III lube base oil with a very high viscosity index (VHVI) and supplying it to countries across the world.

S-OIL advanced into the finished lube oil market with the brand, “Dragon,” in 1989 and set up STLC, a joint venture lubricant company, in 2008 with Total Co., the world’s fifth largest oil company in France. STLC, which boasts a capacity of 150,000KL per year, produces and supplies various finished lube oils used for the auto industry and other industrial fields, and it has established itself firmly as the industrial leader in the Korean market.
