Taehwa Pavilion in Ulsan restored under S-OIL’s sponsorship
● The ceremony for completing the restoration of Taehwa Pavilion, the historic and traditional symbol of Ulsan, was held on May 14. S-OIL made a donation that covered the entire cost of restoring the pavilion.
The ceremony for completing the restoration of Taehwa Pavilion in Ulsan, which was built under the auspices of S-OIL, was held on May 14.
S-OIL CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher participated in the completion ceremony held in Jungu, Ulsan to celebrate the restoration of Taehwa Pavilion, a historic landmark in Ulsan, which will provide a pleasant resting and cultural place for its people. The ceremony was attended by Acting Ulsan Mayor Park Seong-hwan, Lee Jae-hyun, the acting chairman of the Ulsan Metropolitan Council, Kim Chul, the chairman of the Advisory Committee for Taehwa Pavilion Restoration, and about 150 prominent figures in the field of arts and culture in Ulsan.
“We made a donation to restore Taehwa Pavilion in order to return Ulsan citizens’ love for S-OIL as a corporate citizen that has grown together with the Ulsan community,” said CEO Al-Mahasher. “I believe that Taehwa Pavilion, one of the three representative pavilions of the Yeongnam region, will become a cultural symbol that will revive the historic and traditional value of Ulsan and this will imbue Ulsan citizens with a greater pride in the historic and cultural city.”
S-OIL donated 10 bil. won, the entire cost required to restore the pavilion, to boost Ulsan’s cultural pride and to provide a pleasant resting and cultural place for its people.
Taehwa Pavilion, which was established when Queen Seondeok reigned as queen of Silla, is one of the three representative pavilions of the Yeongnam region along with Yeongnam Pavilion in Milyang and Chokseok Pavilion in Jinju. Under the sponsorship of S-OIL, the main pavilion building which comprises Numaru (wooden floor; column bracket structure) consisting of seven partitions in the front and four at the side, haengrangche (servant’s quarters), and Sajumun (gate), etc., which were burnt out during the Seven Year War with Japan, was restored on the land of 10,308 ㎡ in Jung-gu, Ulsan City in about 400 years.
S-OIL is the first corporation that established a welfare foundation in Ulsan, which houses its refinery, and it has made donations to help local farmers, people in need, disabled people, youth, and welfare facilities and organizations since 2007. Also, the refiner is actively conducting Mecenat activities, supporting Oh Young-soo Literature Festival, Nunbit Art Festival, and Byeongyeongseo Nangchigi (traditional performance), etc. in order to promote the development of the local culture.
