S-OIL Delivers Prize Money to Ice Heroes in Sochi
● S-OIL CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher grants prize money of 155 million won to medalists in short track and speed skating.

On March 19, S-OIL invited athletes in ice events of the Winter Olympics to the Shilla Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul on March 19 and held the “Sochi Winter Olympic Skating Medalists Award Ceremony.” In the event, S-OIL CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher delivered 155 million won as prize money, with 30 or so people present, including Korea Skating Union President Kim Jae-youl together with the athletes and their families.
That day, S-OIL delivered 35 million won to Park Seung-hi (22? Hwaseong City Hall), who won the gold medal in the 1,000m and 3,000m short track relay events and won the bronze medal in the 500m short track event, and granted Shim Suk-hee (17? Sehwa High School) 25 million won for taking gold in the women’s 3,000m short track relay and bringing home silver and bronze medals respectively in the 1,500m and 1,000m short track events. Lee Sang-hwa (25? Seoul City Hall) also received 20 million won for taking the helm two consecutive times in the Olympics in the women’s 500m speed skating category.
Along with this, Kong Sang-jeong (18? Yubong High School), Kim A-lang (19? Jeonju Jeil High School), and Cho Ha-ri (28? Goyang City Hall) were also granted 10 million won for winning gold medals in the women’s 3,000m short track relay. In recognition of capturing silver in the men's team pursuit in speed skating, Kim Cheol-min (22? Korea National Sport University), Lee Seung-hoon (26? Korean Air), and Joo Hyong-jun (23? Korea National Sport University) received 5 million won each.
In addition, the refiner gave an encouragement payment of 10 million won each to Lee Kyou-hyuk (36? Seoul City Hall), who participated in the Olympics six consecutive times, and the short track hopeful No Jin-kyu (22? Korea National Sport University), who is under cancer treatment after undergoing surgery to remove a tumor.
During the Olympics period, S-OIL CEO Al-Mahasher visited Sochi in Russia and contributed 10 million won to Korean players and rooted for Lee Sang-hwa in person during her game. “I’d like to express my gratitude and respect to all Korean athletes who proudly rose to the top of the world on behalf of all Korean people,” said the CEO. “S-OIL will give strong support to our proud Korean players in the Pyeongchang Olympics to be held in four years in Korea, hoping for their good performance.”
At the end of January prior to the opening of the Sochi Winter Olympics, S-OIL promised to offer prize money to medalists in short track and speed skating according to their performance in order to give motivation and to boost their morale: 20 million won for gold (10 million won for team players), 10 million won for silver (5 million won for team players) and 5 million won for bronze (3 million won for team players).
