S-OIL Holds Summer Eco Camp for Children from Low-income Families

● S-OIL invites children from the Happy Home School under Korea Food for the Hungry International to an eco camp to offer them experience in protecting natural treasures in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province.

S-OIL hosts CSR activity which combines natural treasure protection campaign and outdoor activities for children from low-income families.

S-OIL (CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher) has invited 100 or so children from low-income families, in collaboration with Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI), to an eco camp held in Togomi Village, Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon Province.

Children from the Happy Home School (local children’s center) in the Seoul Metropolitan Area operated by KFHI are participating in the refiner’s two-night and three-day summer eco camp from Aug. 12 to 14. In the camp, they are conducting activities to learn about the ecology and preserve the habitats of natural treasures such as Eoreumchi, otters, and cranes. Also, they are participating in interesting programs such as star observation, a rural farming experience, and a quiz on natural treasures to naturally learn the importance of environmental protection.

“We’ve held an eco camp every year since 2008 to offer beneficial experiences to children from low-income families,” said an S-OIL official. “Rather than just sitting at home all alone, in the camp, they spend their summer vacations with other children having fun, conducting activities to preserve the habitats of rarely-seen natural treasures, having a rural faming experience, and also observing stars.”

In May 2008, S-OIL signed an agreement with the Cultural Heritage Administration to protect natural treasures. Since then, as part of a campaign to protect natural treasures, the refiner has selected the endangered species Eoreumchi, cranes, otters, and long-horn beetles and has continued with its environmental protection campaign to preserve habitats and to increase wildlife populations.
