S-OIL holds “2012 Hero Firefighters Award”
● S-OIL confers the title of “Best Hero Firefighter” on Fire Lieutenant Kim Young-gi at the National 119 Rescue Services and seven other firefighters.
● For seven years, the refiner has run the Hero Firefighters Support Program to boost firefighters’ morale and to provide financial support for their families.
S-OIL Corporation held the “2012 Hero Firefighters Award” ceremony at the auditorium of Seodaemun Fire Station in Seoul on Dec. 13, with its CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Administrator Lee Ki-hwan in attendance. At the ceremony, the refiner presented plaques of appreciation and prize money to eight firefighters, who were selected as “hero firefighters” on the recommendation of NEMA and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare (KNCSW).
S-OIL awarded a plaque of appreciation and a prize of 20 mil. won to Fire Lieutenant Kim Young-gi (40, National 119 Rescue Services), who was named the Best Hero Firefighter, and a plaque of appreciation and a prize of 10 mil. won to Fire Sergeant Chung Chang-sik (43, Gangnam Fire Station, Seoul) and six other firefighters.
The best hero firefighter Kim has been at the forefront of protecting citizens’ lives and property for 15 years and 4 months, putting out fires and conducting emergency rescue operations in Korea and overseas. In March of last year, he joined a rescue team dispatched to Fukushima in Japan when a massive earthquake struck the country. He saved many lives from collapsing buildings and carried out other rescue activities, raising Korea’s national status.
“I’d like to express my respect and appreciation to 30,000 firefighters nationwide, who dedicate themselves to protecting citizens in dangerous situations, and their families as well,” said S-OIL CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher, who attended the ceremony. “I promise that S-OIL will be a staunch supporter of you, firefighters, who are the staunch heroes of people.”
Since 2006, S-OIL has run the Hero Firefighters Support Program together with NEMA and KNCSW and continuously conducted diverse support activities to encourage firefighters, who willingly sacrifice themselves for other people, and to give financial support to their families. Under the program, the company offers consolation money to injured firefighters and families of fallen firefighters, provides school expenses for children of fallen firefighters, and holds the Rest Camp for Firefighter Couples.
