S-OIL supports surgical expenses for children with rare diseases

● S-OIL CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher donates 230 million won to Korea National Council on Social Welfare to support surgical expenses for low-income children with biliary atresia.
    - The donation is raised by ‘wage tale-cut contribution program’ of S-OIL officers and employees, etc.

S-OIL Corporation CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher donated 230 million won to Korea National Council on Social Welfare(KNCSW) at the S-OIL Mapo building on May 16 to help children suffering from biliary atresia, a rare disease. The donation is to be used for the children in low-income families who need a liver transplant or other medical treatments.

S-OIL was the first domestic company to sign an agreement with KNCSW in 2009 to participate in the campaign “Bring Back Smiles to Children with Rare Diseases.” It has since provided support for low-income children with biliary atresia. S-OIL officers and employees also join the company’s effort to help such children, by donating the amounts below the 10,000-won mark in their salaries each month.

“Biliary atresia” is a rare condition in newborn infants in which the common bile duct between the liver and the small intestine is blocked or absent.

“I heard that many children with biliary atresia can survive and lead normal lives if they have an operation as early as possible,” said Nasser Al-Mahasher, CEO of S-OIL. “We hope our small donation could help to bring back smiles to children suffering from biliary atresia and their families.” “S-OIL will continue to provide active support until more of the children have a successful operation and recover completely,” he added.

In addition to offering surgical expenses to children with biliary atresia, S-OIL invites the children and their families to Jeju Island each year and holds the “Sunshine-sharing Camp” for them, has their family pictures taken by photographers’ club members free of charge each month, and carries out other diverse activities to support them.
